#8 - Techniques for Overcoming Resistance to Evaluation and to Organizational Change and Improvement
A half-day, intermediate workshop facilitated by:
Wendy Rowe, Ph.D., Royal Roads University, Victoria BC

Change is the foundation of organizational development and improvement. Evaluators are increasingly faced with the responsibility for insuring their findings are useful and lead to improvements in the program’s mission and goals to serve its customer or client base. However, many organizations are bureaucratic structures that are resistance to change and thus give only “lip service” to the evaluation initiative. Consequently many evaluation initiatives fail to measure what is most meaningful and relevant to organizational effectiveness. This workshop will focus on how evaluation can be incorporated into an organizational model of change that addresses the underlying sources of resistance and enhances the effectiveness of evaluation initiatives. Participants will be introduced to techniques for motivating organizations to change, overcoming resistance to change, assessing an organization using the E-OD Strategic Change Model, and ensuring support and involvement from key stakeholders for the evaluation process, as well as for dissemination and use of evaluation findings.
